Like many of my ideas, I have talked a lot about my plans to integrate visuals into my live show, but tragically, up until this point that hasn’t become a reality. Mainly, The Department of Culture and the Arts are to blame, as they didn’t fund my projection mapping project ‘Stellations’ because they are quite shit, but I’ve decided I’m not going to let that get me down.
One of my bigger issues with this sort of thing is that I dream big. I like to make things as difficult as possible for myself because for some reason I feel like nothing can be good unless it was absolutely horrible to produce. Dreaming big is good sometimes, but I’m working on dreaming big and starting small.
So, for my next run of shows starting in May, I’m working on just having custom synced visuals for all the audio content. These will be projected on your run of the mill 2D screen – none of this 3D mapping shit just yet.
Then, once we have all of that content, we are going to work on repurposing it for ‘Stellations’. ‘Stellations’ is basically a live audio visual performance projection mapped onto a custom built 3D sculpture and it will be totally super kick ass once we get it up and running. Below is a test mapping on the prototype sculpture. Look out for a crowd funding pitch on pozible to get this off the ground in the near future.
For now, at the next run of shows, you’ll just have to enjoy my custom visuals minus one dimension.
