Well, this is the only time I’m going to let myself start by saying ‘It’s been a while since my last post’ but it has, who am I kidding. I have resolved to not let this be the case from this point forward though, so get yourself excited to read lots more of my ramblings.
So, I’m a filmmaker by trade, and how I haven’t managed to produce a music video for myself before now I’m unsure. I think it’s probably to do with having an acute knowledge of the pain involved in producing good video work. It’s a bitch. At times a nightmare, but then, usually, quite rewarding in the end. For some reason I’ve been happy to put myself through this struggle for other people but up until now, never for myself. I’m sure there’s some sort of psychoanalytical shit in there about me, but the point being – I shot a music video for a new track from my new album, both of which will hopefully see the light of day soon.
I basically had a rough idea for the clip and then got access to an empty warehouse space and a bunch of lights for a work related project. The work shoot was on the friday and I had access to the space and lights all weekend. So, I thought, what can I do that will make a good music video in a big empty warehouse space with 1 week to organise it. My default answer to this question is usually ‘flying people’.
Aaaaand, that’s what we went with. I knew Renee and Scott (the people attached to the harnesses in the pic) from working with them on a video I directed for Kito and Reija Lee. They did the rigging to get the girls in that video to seemingly float through the air. However, this time round, I got them to be the starts of the show and do a bunch of cool shit in the air. I even went to the trouble of engineering a bit of a story around why they were defying gravity in such amazing ways – but you’ll have to wait and see.
Anyways, this will be the first of a few videos for tracks from the album that I’ll start releasing in the coming months. Can’t wait to share some new music and video work with all of y’all.
Naik.
